Halo Matahari :)

Pengennya sih ngutak ngatik draft itu supaya layak di posting tapi kayaknya otak lagi buntu…oh well, kapan kapan aja deh kalo lagi banyak inspirasi, but not now.

<–alesan.

(story will follow).

Stay tuned!

xx

The Hangout: May

I am a bit late posting this due to the bad weather, laziness, other priorities when the sun finally came. So, last week I finally got the time to go to the “place” and took some snapshots.

This time I am going to write about a coffee bar in one of little cute streets in Negen Straatjes (Nine Alleys). The bar is situated on Reestraat 21, Amsterdam. 9 Straatjes is an up-scale neighborhood in one of the districts in Amsterdam, called De Jordaan. It is definitely a tourist magnet, populated with quirky expensive little shops and cozy and hip cafes, made this spot an interesting place to go to during your stay in Amsterdam. I “found” this coffee bar a couple of months ago when I came to a shoe store a block away to exchange boots I purchased.

As a starter, this place is called an original coffee bar. The name is very original, Screaming Beans. If you are looking for a good coffee in De Jordaan, don’t hesitate to swing by this place. There are not so many coffee bars in Amsterdam, and I can tell you this place is one of the best. I liked their Espresso and Doppio, which is a name for double espresso. Last week I went there again with J, and this time I chose Naked Doppio with coffee beans from Kenia Karatina Peaberry. Oh my..it was..Sublime!! It was basically a glass of pure (without filter) double espresso. It was thick, intensely black with strong fruity coffee aroma. They served it with a piece of brownie on the side and a glass of water.

Have no picture before they served it, but I have the one after I downed that Naked Doppio :p .. J does not drink coffee, so he got himself a cold ginger beer. I got to taste and it was really good :D it tasted like ginger ale.

The place is small, and the interior style is not artistic or funky. It has a couple of tables like in a restaurant. It is really a coffee bar but it is quite cozy and clean. You can read magazines, sip your coffee or buy coffee beans and coffee appliances at the front counter near the cashier. The barrista without a doubt was professional and skillful. The staffs were very helpful and friendly. When we were there, there were several lost tourists asking for direction and a staff helped them and I thought it was a plus.

It was a sunny day and the temperature was pretty warm, around 15 degrees Celsius, so we sat first inside but once the seats outside were empty we took it and got to enjoy the sunshine :) The street was bustling, tourists were all over the place. But, that is the charm of 9 straatjes…you see tourists everyday in this neighborhood it becomes an essential part of it. As you can see from the picture below, the shops in 9 Straatjes are diverse. A toys shop next to a designer boutique :)

I just knew like a month ago from a colleague of mine, that Screaming Beans opened their new branch in Helmersbuurt (I once lived here!) which is like 5 minutes walk from my office. The new place is much bigger and it is not just a coffee bar, but it is more like a lounge. Besides sublime coffee selection, they also have diverse (exclusive) wines and tea. What unique is from Screaming Beans, it has an academy where they train their staff as well as individuals and companies. It is all about coffee, tea and wines. In separate theory  and practice areas one can enjoy an informal wine tasting, and also can take part in a latte art workshop or follow a multi-day professional barista training. And, you can even follow trainings and get your SCAE-certificate.

We had a great weekend so far, maybe it was because of the weather :D though it was very windy, we were blessed with abundance of sunshine over the weekend. And to cherish that, we treated ourselves with a nice menu for dinner at a terrace restaurant in De Pijp ! J had a vegetarian Quiche and me si Rakus, I chose Satay menu. Look how humongous the size of Dutch satay is! As you all know, Dutch people love Indonesian cuisine and you can find many Indonesian dishes on the menu cards in many restaurants in the Netherlands, and it is very easy to get ingredients too. But most of the time, they adjust the real dish to their taste. Including satay :p Mostly they grill the satay in the oven (can you imagine the taste?!) but luckily this satay I had, was BBQ grilled which is pretty close like Indonesian satay and the peanut sauce was by far the most edible!

So, how was your weekend friends?

My King’s Landing Aja Deh..

Niatnya sih pengen update blog terus tapi terbentur kenyataan ya. Apalagi kalau bukan alasan sibuk, klise ah! Tuntutan mudik.

The Hangout: April

I thought a few days ago that I’d like to add a new category in this blog, to make it more fun to read and also to give you more info about the Dam and what this city has to offer. I have been thinking of random ideas, and I eventually choose a topic which I will enjoy so much to share it with you. I am a coffee enthusiast and I’ve attempted in describing it in a blog post a while back. You can check the story behind why I love drinking coffee, here.

I share my coffee experience with people who share the same interest; friends, colleagues and acquaintances..and I feel that I should write this information in my blog, so I am able to share it to a bigger public, and why not starting it right here right now. Amsterdam…This little city is a melting pot, an oasis of entertainment and hotspots! There’s always new hotspots in town so I decided to write a modest review which I am going to publish once a month. I will write about coffee shops/bars I like, or a (not so) newly opened coffee shop in town (Be aware: a coffee shop in Dutch means a place where you can buy and smoke some pots :p so in Dutch, a place where you can hang out and sip coffee is a koffiehuis) Perhaps it will be discontinued after a couple of months because in the future, I want to change it with another more interesting topics. For now, I hope you like it.

A Tale of A Precious Card :p

I was tremendously bummed 2 days ago. I couldn’t believe it happened to me. OK, cut the crap and the dramatic entry, Novi. I lost my transportation card! Ho ho wait a minute, don’t be such a drama queen. It is only a card…Nope, girlfriend *snaps snaps. Let me tell you the full story.

Thus, in the Netherlands we are using uniform transportation cards, called OV Chipkaart. With that card in your possession you will be able to travel by all kinds of public transportation (metros, trams, busses and trains) . But, it also depends on the subscription you have set it in that card. For example, I have a personalized OV chipkaart from work which I use for commuting. And my subscription is a yearly one with that it allows me to travel within two Amsterdam regions whenever I want (I live in East and my work is in the Centrum). I got this card for free from my employer. They paid a fix tariff for a yearly subscription. If one wants to have a similar subscription like mine, I am telling you it costs you an arm and a leg. No joke.

Public transport in the Netherlands is REALLY expensive. If I don’t have an OV chipkaart (I will just call it OV) from work I cannot imagine how I can commute everyday. Well I can always bike, but I hate biking in the winter and I am not that sporty as well. I mean, I bike but if I have to do it every day in moody weather, I think I can’t <–see, that is the Indonesian in me speaking!

Weekend Rush

A very sophisticated cover performance that suits my mood for the weekend! Orgastereo. We are headed to Amsterdam Dance Event  tonight, just because I got free tickets from work. I think we will enjoy Saturday nightlife yuppie style out there. So not us. Hehehe. But, it’s free tickets, we should not waste it :D Happy weekend! :)

Gurl Thang

Have been really busy lately with work-related stuff and not to mention the wedding prep (well, the latest one is not so much, it is more contemplating than busy with it) I will not tell you in a TV soapies – length about drama I have at this moment, but I want to share some pretty little things that I do to stabilize the situation. This blog is about “get through things” .

I am so grateful to have and to be surrounded by really good friends. I mean it. I am not a typical kind of person who is easy to hang out with. I mean, I really need to find the right-click with that person otherwise, any minor flaws will be a big turn off for me. I am so touched by my lovely friends’ gestures, words and just being there for me. Everytime we meet, there will be laughter, some silly self-pity and you can just laugh about it, some stories, and above all, there is love. And they really are the sweetest girls.

When I came to this country, I didn’t know anyone, let alone friends. I met new people, and then gradually created my own friends circle. Around the globe! I am telling you, when I open my address book, I have addresses from .. let see, roughly speaking, 4 continents. Where did I meet all these people? Amsterdam. Yep. This city is truly a melting pot, and people come and go. And, even though some of them don’t live in NL anymore I miraculously still keep in touch with almost all of them.
